Do this by hand unless you’ve got a spooling machine on hand. Sever the line with scissors when you’re done. Hold the line taut between your thumb and index finger, applying a little bit of pressure to keep the line straight. Turn the handle in the same direction you loaded the line, which should have been the same direction the reel normally rotates to unspool the line. Knot it against the reel so the line doesn’t come undone. You can do this with a slip knot, clinch knot, or arbor knot.
If they are not the same direction, simple flip the spool to have the directions match. Wind the line by hand or by using the spooling machine. Get it as tight over the fly line as you can make it. It’ll protect your fly line and make it more visible to the fish.
You could spend more than $1000 on a reel but a good casting reel can be bought for $50. They are great for taking up slack very quick before setting a hook. Frogs and plastic worms are ideal for high-gear ratio reels. These are better in general than standard fiberglass rods.

Draw a curved line across the second oval, and connect each end to the first oval with a wavy line. Attach it to the pole by drawing the real seat. Enclose a small irregular shape on top of the reel. Then, use two curved lines to enclose another irregular shape between the reel and the pole. You can use a small spring scale to judge the force if you don’t think you can do it accurately yourself.

If your rod is rated for pound test, make sure the reel you buy has a maximum drag force that falls somewhere in that range. A casting reel with a 30-pound drag would be a great fit.
