Triple Loop Knot Tying Instructions and Strength Charts

I am a FISHING CHARTER CAPTAINon the Treasure Coast of Florida. I have been fishing the grass flats and mangroves all over Florida for more than 40 years. I use the loop knot below all of the time and it consistently holds up even with some very large fish pulling on it. There are many different types of loop knots but I have found this one to be the easiest to tie and have never had it come loose.

Tie a perfection loop fisherman’s knot

Even if you are a flounder fisherman and just bounce the jig off of the bottom every few feet. There is still enough extra movement with the loop knot to get even the pickiest flounder to bite your jig. The first knot that I was taught as a child was a clinch knot.

Then pull the loop and the standing line in opposite directions to seat the knot. Make an overhand knot in the line about 10 inches from the end. Pass the tag end through the hook eye and back through the loop of the overhand knot. Tie the duncan loop knot

I don’t know why, but I think the problem is in the part after the wraps. Clinch works well for 8 pound test and smaller but you will usually use heaver line in saltwater. For 20 pound and up I recommend the Palomar. Be SURE your line lays neatly as you tie and be sure you don’t have one piece drop down over the eye as you tighten it. The whole knot should be on top of the eye, away from the hook end.
