When I am targeting them around docks and other structure, I will use a 2500 to 3500 series reel filled with 10 or 15 pound braided line and a 20 pound leader. Run your monofilament line through the middle of the bend, then wrap it once around the bottom of the bend. You don’t want to use fluorocarbon fishing line or leaders while using topwater lures because fluorocarbon sinks. While it probably won’t be enough to submerge your entire lure, it could sink enough to pull their nose down and kill their action. It can be great fly fishing, with snook, tarpon, and occasionally redfish and bass all feeding against the shoreline as the minnows come out. It’s a good day for the fish, but a bad day for the minnows. The only problem is that to fly-fish in this situation, you need to cast against the northern wind and reach the other side of the canal.

If small hook I have yanked a few out but it’s painful and sometimes a little bloody. I think your missing a step I spit on the line to help ease it tighten and always give myself extra line to tie. Once you have it ready to pull and tighten, bite the free end just to hold, hold line above knot with one hand then pull and slide the noose down simultaneously. Braid is known to be more visible in the water and should not be used in clear and calm surf zones. Having said that, if you still want to fish the surf when it’s clear, it’s totally fine. But at lease make sure to attach a mono or fluoro leader to your braided line.
