Then tie a leader from the other end of the swivel to a lure or hook. Often a plastic bead is fitted on the line between the weight and swivel to prevent the sinker from fraying a knot during fishing. That sinker on your fishing line is much more important than you realize.
Small fish need small to medium rods, but if you are interested in catching large fish, a larger rod is needed. You will also need a different rod for lake fishing than catching fish in the ocean. That ‘scent’ if mixed correctly should draw more fish into range of your bait and thus allow for a great chance of a bite. The bells are used on the feeder rods (and probably on the bottom rods, haven’t brought one yet).
When picking out your sinkers, use enough weight to bring the bait closer to the bottom, but not enough to weigh down your line. A swivel is a metal piece with eyelets that you attach to the end of your line so you can easily change your fishing rigs. Sinker slides are a staple item in the tackle box of many catfish anglers and considered to be essential by many.

Slide the sinker onto the main line running back to your reel. Make sure your line is already threaded through your reel and rod so you’re ready to fish right away. Since sliding sinkers can move freely up and down your line, just feed the line through the hole in the middle of the weight. Fish with a sliding sinker to reach the bottom of the water. Sliding sinkers come in many shapes, like eggs and bullets, and they have a hole running through the middle.
The shape of the lead being long and thin makes it less likely to get snagged on the bottom of the river. This makes changing the weight very easy without the need to re-tie knots every time. Pyramid sinkers are four-sided, shaped like a pyramid with a point at one end, and resist tumbling in current.
It bears remembering that the correct choice of weights for fishing can be as important to angling success as employing the right lure or bait. Having the wrong type or size weight is among the surest ways of turning off fish; whereas the right weight can bring instant angling success. Press the fishing line into the groove of the split shot sinker. Make sure your lure is suitable for your rod’s technical specifications.

For deeper water, the hook can be adjusted to nine inches from the weight to no more than a foot and a half because of the leverage. In addition, the weight needs to be heavier for deeper water as there may be some undercurrent. For many years, that’s how the saltwater fishermen set up their rig for bottom fishing as far as I can remember.
This sinker, along with the pyramid sinker, is what we use bottom fishing offshore or in a current. The teardrop shape that allows you to attach your line at the top, means that the sinker will be on the bottom while your bait is above it. We tie a loop about two feet long at the end of my line. We leave the tag end of the line at about 12 to 14 inches long. It’s what we locally call a chicken rig, and we use it for red snapper, sea bass, and other bottom fish.
They are formed into nearly innumerable shapes for diverse fishing applications. Environmental concerns surround the usage of lead and other materials in fishing sinkers. A fishing sinker or knoch is a weight used in conjunction with a fishing lure or hook to increase its rate of sink, anchoring ability, and/or casting distance.
