I learned a number of knots in scouting as a kid, that I have used to great advantage my whole life. Always allow for plenty of line for the knots. It’s easier to trim than stretch the line. Holding the coils in place with one finger, pull the line up until the loop is snug under the coils.
The blood knot is utilized for tying two pieces of fishing line together. Used often for fly fishing or for making use of broken or odd length fishing lines, the blood knot is an easy-to-learn and valuable skill to have on any fishing boat. It’s one of the most important knots in all of fishing, used by most anglers to secure their hooks, lures, or swivels to the fishing line.
Rope Knot Library: How to Tie the Sheet Bend Rope Knot
Pass the end of the line through the loop, then make a simple sheet bend knot. Pass the loose end of the monofilament above the center strand of monofilament and below the wire line, then pull snug. With the monofilament, make seven close turns around both lines. Run your monofilament line through the middle of the bend, then wrap it once around the bottom of the bend.
Don’t be intimidated, though, even by knots that seem to require three hands. Once you get the muscle memory down, most of them are surprisingly simple to get right. Working away from the lure, take the tag end and make three or four loops around the main line.

There are more than a few ways to tie loop knots. The Rapala Knot is a very popular loop knot. There is a version of the loop knot called the Krystan Loop Knot.
